Jan/08 : Overseas Maritime was appointed by Hull Underwriters to investigate the grounding of a 1500gt General Cargo vessel at Thessaloniki. While performing underwater survey following the incident, divers from salvors Megalochari Hellenic Tugboats located a second world war mine against the anchor chain of the vessel. The mine was estimated to contain 300kg of explosives.
As the special forces would not defuse the mine with the vessel in position, divers from Megalochari bravely cut the anchor chain and undertook the refloating of the vessel.
